Microsoft is releasing MS Search Server 2008, a tool for building enterprise search services. I don’t have any experience yet with these particular tools, but have been impressed with the strides Microsoft has made in the search capabilities of MOSS 2007 and WSS 3.0. Of particular interest is the Search Server 2008 Express edition. In the past, I’ve used open source products like Lucene.NET (a great tool, by the way), but I’ve always felt very comfortable with the interfaces and APIs that Microsoft has build, so I’m looking forward to giving it a spin! By the way, the current product is currently a Release Candidate (RC). Expect the final to ship in the SQL Server 2008 time frame.
For those of you with enterprise needs, there’s a more full featured version (non-Express so you’ll need to pay for it). It’s the Search Server 2008.
